Tim Pine is an Australian painter, radio presenter and filmmaker known for his auteur storytelling and distinctive visual style. Born on April 8, 1983, in Adelaide, South Australia.
His early life was marked by challenges; expelled from both Taperoo High and Adelaide High in the late '90s, it became clear that traditional schooling was not his path. Tim embarked on a series of odd jobs, including carpentry, roof plumbing, and sales representation for Coca-Cola, which eventually led him to Mooloolaba in Queensland.
In 2002, Tim began his journey in radio at 91.9 Seafm on the Sunshine Coast after a friend encouraged him to apply. Starting with promotions and mid-dawn shifts, he quickly established himself in the broadcasting industry. Returning to Adelaide, he took on an on-air role with Mix102.3 (formerly 5AD), and has since been a staple in the Australian commercial radio scene, presenting for stations such as SAFM, Hit107, and currently, Triple M Adelaide. “The Late Lounge with Tim Pine” aired weeknights for three years on Adelaide’s Triple M before being cut due to cost-saving measures during the COVID-19 pandemic. Tim now continues to work with Triple M, providing local fill-ins, broadcasting nationally across the network, and occasionally anchoring breakfast and drive shows.
Tim developed a passion for filmmaking in his teens after an injury curtailed his promising career in Aussie Rules football with Port Adelaide. Tim’s directorial debut, “Spithood,” premiered on Prime Video in the U.S. in late October 2024. While it received mixed reviews, it established him as a rising talent in the film community, with his work often exploring themes of the human condition and resilience. Tim Pine continues to push the boundaries of filmmaking, experimenting with new genres and innovative techniques, aiming to challenge and provoke thought among audiences.
When he’s not behind the camera or on the airwaves, Tim can be found in his studio in Glenelg, experimenting with painting. Although he has yet to hold an exhibition showcasing his work, he continues to create. Tim resides in Adelaide and is currently developing his next film, “Monophagous”.
